THE players are back in training and the last-minute transfer activity is being planned as the Ligue 1 clubs set their sights on the start of the new season. There are nine matches on Saturday 9 August, and one - featuring the reigning champions Lyon - the following day.

Rudi Garcia has quit as coach of Le Mans to take over as the new coach of Lille, where he began his playing career in the 1980s. He replaces Claude Puel, who has moved to Lyon (see story below).

Lyon have confirmed that Claude Puel will take over from Alain Perrin as their head coach. He shook hands on a four-year contract with Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas.
